Pamela Jean Marcaurelle

Pamela Marcaurelle passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at her home in St. Croix with her loving husband right by her side. Pamela was 76 years happily young.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kathleen and James O’Neill; her brother, James "Jimmy" O’Neill; and her sister-in-law, Andrea Marcaurelle.

She is survived by her husband, Robert "Mac" Marcaurelle; her children, Luke Marcaurelle, Raeme Marcaurelle Merlos, and James Marcaurelle; her son-in-law, Adiel Merlos; daughter-in-law, Wendy Marcaurelle; and grandsons, Frances Marcaurelle and Levi Long Marcaurelle. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen (Sue) Pease; her brother-in-law, Blair Marcaurelle and his wife Bea; sister-in-law, Jan Marcaurelle; nieces and nephews Holly Nash, Erica Marcaurelle, Alicia Marcaurelle, Steven Pease, Chris Marcaurelle, and Troy Benjamin and his wife Jayce; as well as a large extended family of cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Born on March 7, 1950, in Gloucester, Massachusetts, she grew up on Portuguese Hill, making some of her earliest memories playing in the streets of her close-knit neighborhood. Pamela was adventurous, creative, funny, quick-witted, and an extraordinary problem solver. She dreamed big from an early age, imagining herself as a pilot or a lawyer, and carried that sense of possibility throughout her life.

She married Bob, and together they built a life filled with family, hard work, and adventure. Though her brother James noted she could barely boil water when first married, her mother taught her well; Pam grew to be an incredible cook whose globally inspired meals were legendary.

Pamela and Bob established a seafood business in Ipswich, Massachusetts, where she worked side by side with him. Innovative and organized, she kept the business ahead of the curve and spent many years shucking clams herself. Her career was wonderfully varied: she worked at Cape Ann Pediatrics, served in administration at the Topsfield Fair, hosted at a Chinese restaurant. She planned events for The Trustees in Ipswich, her final job was at the Gloucester Cruiseport in management of all operation, where coworkers loved her energy. When the kitchen was slammed, Pam would walk into the back, turn up the music, dance, and brighten the room. She was also a long-time member of the Essex County Beekeeping Association.

Creativity followed Pamela everywhere. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, calligraphy, painting, cooking, film noir movies, and calypso and soca music. Her quilting talent earned her a blue ribbon at the Topsfield Fair for her handmade bags. Above all, Pamela was enormously proud of her children, encouraging them to chase their dreams and build full lives.

Pamela first traveled to St. Croix in 1988 and fell deeply in love with the island, its beauty, music, people, and beaches. She loved visiting the botanical gardens, the sunshine, the sea, and the ease of island life. Some of her happiest moments were spent liming under the tree with family, sharing food, stories, and laughter. Over the decades, her St. Croix connections grew into an extended island family that she treasured deeply. This includes Rose Lawrence, Tom and Iola Daily and family; Gus Harvey and family; Waldo Knight and family; Junior Clendenen and family; Fernando Martin; Bill Bass; Jonathan Babin and family; and many other dear friends across the island.

Pamela had a gift for gathering people around a table, making something beautiful out of what was available, and finding joy in every moment. Her life stretched from Portuguese Hill to the shores of St. Croix, filled with countless adventures, projects, meals, and memories. Her warmth, music, and generous spirit will continue to bring people together.

A Celebration of Life will held on October 31, 2026, from 10am -1pm in the Harbour room at the Gloucester Cruiseport, 6 Rowe Square Gloucester, Ma 01930

A Memorial will be held on St. Croix in January 2027; the family will make a public announcement when the time is near.
