Owen H. Petrus

With heavy hearts, the family of Owen Petrus announces his passing on February 23, 2026. Owen was born on April 21, 1957, and throughout his life he was known for his strength, love for his family, and the lasting friendships he formed. He touched many lives and will be remembered for his kindness and the memories he created with those closest to him.

Owen was preceded in death by his mother, Jean E. Phillips Baptiste; his father, James Petrus; his brothers, Gustave Simmonds Sr. and Richard Petrus; and his sisters, Louise Petrus and Sarah Petrus.

He leaves to cherish his memory his lifetime partner, Nancy Serrano; his loving daughter, Damali Petrus; and his cherished grandchildren, Eric Saritago, Ricky Sepulveda, Jerson Hernandez, Franklin Hernandez, Chanel Boatner, and Jalayah Boatner. He is also survived by his brothers Angel Serrano, David Baptiste, Stewart Baynes, Anthony Wilkes, Wayne Petrus, James Petrus, and Dale Petrus, his sisters Yvonne Maranda, Yvette Coggins, Ruth Baptiste, Elisa Baptiste, Mariesha Maynard, Brenda Petrus Bastian, and Jemela Petrus, and his aunt, Gloria Joseph.

Owen will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews: Naomi Collins, Kyra Bryson, Erica Thompson, Nya Ashley, Niedha Welsh, Te’aunna Wilkes, Shaunté Baptiste, Chenique Decicco Andrew, Toni Wilkes, Louise Petrus Long, Patricia Petrus, Abdul Young, Keshawn Serrano, David Baptiste Jr., Eric Thompson, Takiba Ortiz, Amal Bryson, Nami Powell, Keba-Eyan Collins Petrus, Abednego Collins Petrus, Shanice Christian, Shaniffa Christian, Keniqua Christian, Nia Petrus, Dr. Carla Bastian-Knight, Alex Petrus, Sandra Gustave, Gustave Simmonds Jr., Brenda Simmonds, Tamara Williams, Renika Williams, Shauna Williams, Rianna Williams, Abaise Williams, Ajarie Williams, Ronel A. Schjang, and Vincent “Putchie” Petrus.

He is further survived by extended family members Darren Smith, Elroy Charles Jr., Nisha Charles Williams, Serenity J. Charles, Brycen J. Charles, Barrika Thomas, Timayah Williams, Naylah Charles, Kymani Dante Williams, Janelle Saunders, Jamilia Saunders and the H&H Tire & Battery Family, along with many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Bethel AME Church, Christiansted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands 00820. Viewing starts at 9:00 A.M. and service at 10:00 A.M. Internment follows at the Christiansted Cemetery.
