Jacob Christmas Burnett

Jacob Christmas Burnett was born on December 24, 1934, and peacefully departed this life on August 23, 2026. Jacob leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy of love that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted spouse, Darling Elsie Burnett.

Jacob was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mary Dodds and Lionel Burnett. Although he is no longer with us, his memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family, friends, neighbors, church family, and all those whose lives he touched. His love, kindness, and the many memories shared with him will continue to bring comfort to those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

Jacob is survived by his sons, Joseph, Julius, Alex, Philsbert Desmond Burnette, and Emmerson Africa; his adopted daughter, Elvia Edwards of Dominica; his 47 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn his passing his sisters, Ursula Hodge of Antigua, Beatrice Williams of the United Kingdom, and his adopted sister, Joanna Isaac of the USA. He will also be remembered by Bethsada Burnette of Antigua, Lorna and Wendy Burnette of the USA, Odelia Rouse Burnette of the USA, Junie Brewster nee Burnett of Dominica, Allister Burnette Telemaque, Honica Burnette Jeffers, and Connie Burnette, along with many other relatives and loved ones.

Jacob will forever be remembered by his godchildren, Nicholson Dodds, Roselyn Telemaque, Meryle Greenaway, Marinel Prince of Dominica, Carl Phillip of St. Thomas, Donald James, McArthur Telemaque, Helena Roselyn Joseph of the USA, Stewart Richards of Canada, and Cuthbert Robinson of the British Virgin Islands. He also leaves to mourn his many nieces and nephews, including the children and grandchildren of the late McKenzie Joseph and Greenige Burham, as well as the children and grandchildren of Beatrice Williams and Ursula Hodge.

He will also be remembered by his brothers-in-law, Bristol Lawrence and Titus Lobby of Dominica; his sons-in-law, Julian Brewster and Lanville Rouse; and his daughters-in-law, Geraldine Burnette, Gilda Dodds Burnette(BVI) and Valena Africa. Jacob leaves behind many other relatives, including the Burnette families of Wesley, Marigot, Portsmouth, and Roseau, as well as the Dodds and Celestine families of Wesley Dominica. He will also be deeply missed by his special friends, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Delsol, Mr. and Mrs. Clancy Ettiene, Roy Challenger, Leroy Edwards of St. Croix, Isaac Thomas of the USA, Sanderson Prince of Dominica, Mr. and Mrs. Dupert Knowles of St. Croix, Litty Castor of St. Croix, Mignon Abel of Dominica, and Neomi St. Amie of Canada.

Jacob will also be fondly remembered by his neighbors and friends in Wesley, including Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Telemaque and family, Nicholson St. John, Maria (Ettieney) Africa, Edward Shillingford, Dawn Africa, and the family of the late Neolin Felix. He leaves behind many other special friends, including Patsy Dowe, Mr. and Mrs. Mosely Charles, Augustina Gachet, and Kamothe Gussie, as well as the members of the Bethel Methodist Church, St. Croix. Many other relatives and friends, too numerous to mention, will also cherish his memory and mourn his passing.

A Family and Friends Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Divine Funeral Services & Crematory Chapel, 129 Peter’s Rest, Christiansted VI 00820.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Bethel Methodist Church, Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands 00840. Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Kingshill Cemetery.
