Darrin Robert Olson

August 18, 1968 — January 1, 2026

Darrin Robert Olson, age 57, passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2026, in Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, a place he proudly called home for many years.

Darrin was born on August 18, 1968, in Nephi, Utah, to Robert Dee Olson and Theo Roene Jackson Olson. He was raised in West Valley City, Utah, alongside his siblings, where the foundations of his character were formed.

On June 19, 1986, Darrin married Diann Michele Thomas, beginning a lifelong bond that would shape the decades that followed. Together, they raised two sons, Shawn Todd Olson and Tyler Ray Olson.

Following his early years in Utah, Darrin spent nearly two decades in Texas, living in San Antonio and Bulverde, where he worked for USAA. In 2007, he followed his love of the ocean and adventure and relocated to Frederiksted, St. Croix, where he would remain for the rest of his life. During his years on the island, Darrin formed deep and meaningful relationships with his coworkers within the Customs and Border Protection family, connections he valued greatly. The camaraderie, mutual respect, and shared experiences with those he worked alongside were an important part of his life and brought him a strong sense of belonging.

Darrin was known for his quiet strength, quick wit, and sense of humor. He left an imprint through presence rather than noise. He was someone people could count on, and his absence is deeply felt.

He is survived by his loving wife, Michele; his sons, Shawn and Tyler (Jonny Pallotta); and his cherished granddaughter, Haley Rae. He is also survived by his parents; his siblings Brent Olson (Peggy), Cindy Rogers, Cathy Wayman, and Valarie Sanders (Jeff); along with numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends who were touched by his kindness and spirit.

Darrin was preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Laicee Evelyn and brother-in-law, Jim Wayman.

He will be remembered not only for the places he lived, but for the life he carried forward through his family. He found joy on the water; boating, scuba diving, and sharing the beauty of the sea with others and in meeting new friends along his travels.

A private remembrance will be held by the family. In honoring Darrin’s memory, loved ones are encouraged to reflect on the many moments, quiet laughs, and genuine smiles shared with him.
