Bernell G. Herbert Jr.

It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt remembrance that we announce the passing of Bernell G. Herbert Jr., who departed this life on January 9, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on October 11, 1949, in the Bronx, New York, Bernell was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose life was marked by love for family and lasting connections with all who knew him.

Bernell was preceded in death by his loving parents, Lynette Lewis-Herbert and Bernell Herbert Sr.; his sister Kayette Herbert; and his nephews Kai Gumbs and Cy Gumbs.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children Donell Herbert, Bernell Herbert III, and Iwanya Herbert; and his treasured grandchild, Jaimela Roebuck. He is also survived by his brothers Rudy Herbert, Earl Herbert, and Dino Herbert; and his sisters Edna Herbert, Jewel Herbert Kemp, Bernice Herbert-Rivers, Janice Herbert-Abraham, Candis Herbert, Nilda Herbert-Cruz, and Tracey Herbert-Stoute.

Bernell is lovingly remembered by his nieces Nicholl Bowns, Te’Shanee Daley, Janell Harraway, Rehema Hall, and Chinue Herbert; and his nephews James Abraham Jr., Walter Blackman Jr., John Gumbs Jr., Tanoa Kemp, and Kamau Herbert. He is also survived by his in-laws James Abraham Sr., Rufus Rivers, Ignatius Stoute, Gertrude Herbert, and Debra Herbert, along with many special friends, Great-Nieces, and Great-Nephews too numerous to mention.

A viewing will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Divine Chapel, 129 Peter’s Rest, Christiansted, VI 00820.
